Eurojust President Ladislav Hamran and Ambassador Asirwatham Engage in a farewell meeting in The Hague

Ambassador Grace Asirwatham, the Head of Mission of Sri Lanka to the European Union in Brussels, called on the President of the Eurojust, Ladislav Hamran, in The Hague, Netherlands, on December 6, 2023, for a farewell meeting.

The Eurojust President thanked Ambassador Asirwatham for her efforts to establish official contact points between Eurojust and Sri Lanka to facilitate bilateral cooperation in mutual interest. President Hamran acknowledged their past engagements and underscored Eurojust's commitment to enhancing collaboration with Sri Lanka. This commitment extends to providing support for capacity building, technical assistance, and training in areas falling within Eurojust's jurisdiction.

President Hamran highlighted Eurojust's overarching goal to strengthen cooperation with EU member countries and partner countries in legal action and coordination against cross-border organized crimes, covering issues such as money laundering, bribery and corruption, terrorism, drug and human trafficking, and related criminal activities.

In response, Ambassador Asirwatham expressed gratitude for Eurojust's assistance and cooperation with Sri Lanka, commending President Hamran's unwavering support in advancing bilateral cooperation towards a functional mechanism.

Eurojust, in its role as a vital European Union Agency, facilitates coordination among national investigating and prosecuting authorities across the EU and beyond, addressing various forms of serious cross-border crime. In accordance with the EU Council's 2018 decision, Eurojust continues to strengthen cooperation by establishing working relationships with third countries worldwide.
