Embassy of Sri Lanka Meets with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) to Strengthen Bilateral Tourism Cooperation

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok held two productive meetings with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) as part of its ongoing preparations to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand. The visiting delegation from the Ministry of Tourism & Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) also joined the meetings.

During the discussions, Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, particularly in the area of Buddhist tourism, which has long served as a significant cultural and spiritual bridge between the two nations.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism of Sri Lanka, Jayasiri Tennakoon delivered comprehensive presentations highlighting Sri Lanka’s major tourist attractions and the country’s diverse potential for spiritual, cultural, and leisure travel.

Throughout the engagements, both sides exchanged views on strengthening tourism linkages through enhanced dialogue, increased delegation exchanges, and closer institutional cooperation. The discussions focused on the importance of undertaking familiarization (FAM) tours to deepen cultural understanding and promote tourism development, as well as the potential for joint promotional activities designed to advance Buddhist religious diplomacy and position Sri Lanka and Thailand as leading Buddhist tourism destinations in Asia.

At the meeting with TAT,  Executive Director for ASEAN, South Asia, and South Pacific Region, Patsee Permvongsenee along with four senior officials, represented the Thai side. The TTAA meeting was attended by  Vice President, Viboon Kamontho, together with nine committee members.

Minister Counsellor (Commercial) of the Embassy, Shiwanthi Abeyrathne and Assistant Director for Marketing and New Product Development of the SLTPB, Nithini Senanayake also participated in the meetings.

The Embassy looks forward to continued collaboration with TAT, TTAA, and other key stakeholders as both countries work toward expanding partnerships in tourism and cultural exchange.
