
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oman hosted an All-Night Pirith Chanting Ceremony at the Chancery on 2 January 2025 to invoke blessings on Sri Lankans residing in Oman and to bestow merit on those recent victims of the Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka. Nine Venerable Theros from Sri Lanka led by Venerable Deraniyagala Jinarathna Thero conducted the program. A large gathering of Sri Lankans participated at the ceremony.
Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy Maxwell Keegel who spoke at the commencement of the Pirith Ceremony referred to the tremendous support received by the Embassy from the Sri Lankan Community in collecting cash donations and essential supplies for Cyclone victims which were dispatched to Colombo. He also referred to the inter religious harmony manifested by the participation of Hindu, Muslim and Christian members of the community at the Pirith Ceremony.
The following day a Sanghika Dana was offered by the staff of the Embassy to the Venerable monks. The Ambassador of Thailand, Warunee Pan-Krajang and the staff of the Thai Embassy in Muscat also participated in the Dana Ceremony at the invitation of the Sri Lanka Embassy.
