Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow celebrates Sinhala and Tamil New Year

On April 16, after a three-day national holiday, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation resumed its work by holding a ceremony in commemoration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year that was observed by Sri Lankan people all over the worldon April 14.

In the beginning of the ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Mrs. Sanja Jayatilleka, and other members of the Mission lit the traditional oil lamp. While addressing the staff, H. E. the Ambassador briefly described the history behind the Sinhala and Tamil New Year as a national holidayand wished that the occasion could contribute revitalization to the work of the Mission as well as personal lives of its employees.

Upon the conclusion of the official part of the ceremony, staff members were invited to enjoy traditional Sri Lankan refreshments.
