Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon celebrates Christmas with the Sri Lankan Community

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beirut in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Christians’ Society, celebrated Christmas with the Sri Lankan community in Lebanon at the Embassy premises on 30 December 2018.

Rev. Fr. Henri Foncey, representing the St. Joseph's Church in Beirut, conducted the holy mass and highlighted the significance of Christmas. Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Sri Lanka Lebanon H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijerathne Mendis delivered the Christmas message of President Maithripala Sirisena and remarked that the true spirit of Christmas is being witnessed on the day, through the rich diversity and religious harmony among different communities of Sri Lankans living in Lebanon.

The members of the Women is society of Sri Lanka in Lebanon, Caritas Lebanon, Carontina church in Beirut, and children of the Sri Lankan community sung Christmas carols. A nativity play was also performed by the Sri Lankans, while the gathering was entertained by a Santa-Claus with gifts and delicacies. Gifts were presented to the members of the choirs, performers of the nativity play and the children.

A large number of Sri Lankans living in Lebanon participated in the event, and the evening was concluded with refreshments hosted by the Sri Lankan community associations.
