
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan marked the commencement of the New Work Year 2026 with a special ceremony held at the Mission premises on 1 January 2026, with the participation of Embassy staff.
The programme included the hoisting of the National Flag by Ambassador J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, the singing of the National Anthem, the lighting of the oil lamp, and the observance of two minutes of silence in remembrance of war heroes and others who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.
Subsequently, the Mission staff took an oath reaffirming their commitment to serve the people in line with the national vision, “A Thriving Country and a Beautiful Life,” reflecting resilience in the face of challenges.
Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador Wijegunasekara conveyed New Year greetings and commended the staff for their dedication and teamwork in serving the Sri Lankan community in Jordan and supporting national priorities. She also appreciated the Embassy staff, Sri Lankan community, and garment sector in Jordan for their generous contributions towards humanitarian assistance for the victims of Cyclone Ditwah.
The Ambassador further noted the positive recovery of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector and encouraged efforts to promote Sri Lanka as an attractive destination among Jordanian partners.
The event concluded with a traditional breakfast.
