The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan celebrated Christmas on 20 December 2024 at the Embassy premises, with an evening of prayers, carols, and entertainment. This was held in keeping with the Mission’s practice of celebrating major religious festivals.
Reverend Father Sheran Kamantha graced the occasion with a special prayer, bestowing blessings upon the participants and all Sri Lankans for a happy Christmas and a prosperous year ahead. In his Christmas message, the Reverend Father emphasized the importance of Christmas which brings everyone together in a spirit of peace, harmony, and togetherness.
Delivering the welcome speech, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan, J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara emphasized the role of the Embassy as an agent that unifies the cultural, social, and religious diversity among Sri Lankans. The Ambassador further stated that given the multi-ethnic nature of the Sri Lankan society, the Embassy should be a place where all Sri Lankans feel included and recognized irrespective of their religion. Furthermore, highlighting the significance of Christmas, the Ambassador extended her warm greetings to the guests on the joyous occasion.
The Embassy premises were adorned with Christmas decorations that created a festive atmosphere. Christmas Carols were recited by the children of the Sri Lankan community in Jordan and Santa Claus distributed gifts among children. Moreover, the invitees were entertained with music, and treated to a Christmas dinner arranged by the Embassy.
