Deputy Minister of Labour of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Jayasinghe participated in the Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC) - 2025 held at the King Abdulaziz International Convention Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 29 to 30 January 2025. The Deputy Minister represented the Government of Sri Lanka at the invitation extended by the Government of Saudi Arabia. The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh facilitated the visit.
The GLMC is an annual global conference held in Saudi Arabia uniting industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss global labour market challenges, solutions, and developments with a focus on trends, policies, and strategies that can improve performance across global labour landscapes. The event brought together over 10,000 participants, 40 Labour Ministers, and more than 200 global experts and speakers representing over 100 countries.
During the Global Conference, Deputy Minister Jayasinghe, along with Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia Ameer Ajwad met with Saudi Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Eng. Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al-Rajhi.
The Deputy Minister also held a meeting with the CEO and key officials of Takamol Holdings which handles domestic worker affairs under its musanad platform. Both sides had a fruitful discussion on matters related to the welfare of the Sri Lankan domestic workers including their safety and salary-related matters, as well as pre and post departure training of Sri Lankan female domestic workers. Ambassador Ameer Ajwad and Counsellor (Employment and Labour Welfare) at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh attended the meeting.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad hosted a luncheon meeting in honour of the visiting Deputy Minister Jayasinghe at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh. Furthermore, he briefed the Deputy Minister on the activities and new initiatives of the Embassy including “Talk to Your Ambassador” community outreach programme. During the interaction with the Embassy staff, the Deputy Minister outlined the labour policy of the new Government of Sri Lanka and emphasized the promotion of foreign employment of skilled labour.
