The Sri Lanka High Commission in London celebrated the 63rd National Day on 04 February 2011  morning at the High Commission premises with the participation of Sri Lankans living in the UK representing Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Muslim faiths.

 

The National Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated on 4th February at the Embassy of premises in Beijing with the participation of Sri Lankans and Chinese well wishers.   A live telecast of HE the President’s address to the nation from Kataragama was brought to the audience as a special feature of the event in Beijing through inter-net facilities taking advantage of the two and a half hour time difference between Beijing and Sri Lanka. 

The Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai represented Sri Lanka for the first time at the Expo 2011, held on the sidelines of the Second Global Economic Summit 2011, at the World Centre in Mumbai from 27 - 29 January, 2011.
 
The Expo 2011 was organized by the All India Association of Industries with the support of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry of India and the Government of Maharashtra.

 

The Department of Fine Arts, Thailand, donated 11 Buddha statues to be exhibited at the Thai Gallery in the proposed international Buddhist Museum at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy.

Newly appointed Permanent Delegate of Sri Lanka to UNESCO, Ambassador Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka participating in the International Symposium on the Freedom of Expression at UNESCO in Paris questioned the right of Reporters without Borders (RSF) to stand in judgment of legitimate member states.

 

The Italian Government will dispatch on Thursday(27 Jan) relief assistance to the flood-affected in Sri Lanka. A special cargo aircraft will leave Italy in early hours of tomorrow with the relief goods valued at over SLRs. 27 million.
