‘Sri Lanka Day’ at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela in India

Sri Lanka’s National Crafts Council, with the assistance of the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi, arranged the participation of Sri Lankan craftspersons and artistes at the annual Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2013 from 1st – 15th February at Surajkund, Faridabad, Haryana. 

Sri Lankan craftspersons and artistes were among participants from over twenty other countries at the International Section of the Mela.

Approximately one thousand Sri Lankan – American community members and distinguished invitees including United States  Congressmen , senior government officials and Washington based Ambassadors  witnessed the biggest Sri Lankan cultural event held outside of Sri Lanka.

Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu celebrated Sri Lanka’s 65th National Day on 4th February 2013. The Embassy held two functions to celebrate the event in Kathmandu. The morning celebrations were held at the Embassy premises with the hoisting of the national flag by His Excellency Mr. W.M. Senevirathna, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal and followed by the national anthem. Traditional oil lamp was lighted by the Ambassador and some invited guests. Sri Lankan expatriate community in Nepal participated at the event. Read More
