The Inter-Ministerial Committee, established by the Cabinet of Ministers, to develop a national human rights action plan for 2017-2021, has decided to call for observations or views from all stakeholders, including civil society and interested organisations on the drafting of the new five year human rights action plan.

Attack on Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Malaysia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms reports that Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to Malaysia had been assaulted by a group of persons at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport today, 4 September 2016.
The Government of Sri Lanka condemns this act of violence on Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Malaysia, in the strongest terms.
Minister of Foreign Affairs to undertake official visit to the Republic of Slovenia
Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera will undertake an official visit to the Republic of Slovenia on 4-8 September 2016. This is the first high-level visit from Sri Lanka to the Republic of Slovenia since the election of the new Government in January 2015.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to visit Sri Lanka
At the invitation of the Government, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Mrs Ban Soon-taek, will visit Sri Lanka from 31 August to 2 September 2016.
Mobile Consular Service from 28th to 31st August 2016 in Nallur, Jaffna
The Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be organizing a Mobile Consular service in the vicinity of Nallur Temple, Jaffna from 28th to 31st August 2016 to coincide with the festival of Nallur Temple.
The Mobile Service is being launched with the objective of creating awareness on the range of the multiple consular services being extended to the public, by the Consular Affairs Division of the Foreign Ministry.
Visit of the Prime Minister of Norway
The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Erna Solberg, commenced a two-day official visit on 12 August 2016. This official visit takes place in her dual capacity as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway as well as co-chair of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocacy Group, an appointment made by the UN Secretary- General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon.
Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova to visit Sri Lanka
The Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Irina Bokova, will arrive in Sri Lanka on 13 August afternoon, on an official visit, at the invitation of the Government of Sri Lanka. Her official programme will be from 14 – 17 August 2016.
