South African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX) in Johannesburg

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in South Africa, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Export Development Board, organized Sri Lanka participation at South African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX) - 2009 which was held from 19 – 21 July at Gallagher Convention Center in Midrand, Johannesburg. Eight Sri Lankan companies participated in this event with the aim to promote their products in the African market.

“Sri Lanka – Land of Thousand Dreams”

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow held an event that showcased a film titled ‘Rama’s Bridge’ on the 10th of August 2009. The film portrayed the journey of a fearless warrior who walks across the sea over a bridge from India to Sri Lanka. This bridge is 38km and is only seen in ancient maps and heard of in legends. The film shows the dangers faced by him and what waits for him on the other side.

Sri Lankans In Greater Washington area contribute For Api Wenuwen Api Fund

Members of the Sri Lankan community in the Washington, D.C. area raised thousands of dollars Saturday for a housing program that will help members of Sri Lanka’s armed forces buy homes. The July 18 event occurred simultaneously at the homes of Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya and five diplomats assigned to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C. The diplomats invited local Sri Lankans to their homes to enjoy traditional food and learn about the Ministry of Defense’s Api Wenuwen Api Ranaviru Housing Project Fund.

A group of 30 Sri Lankan high school students visited the Embassy of Sri Lanka last week. They met with the Embassy staff and posed questions about issues such as the recent victory over the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, internally displaced persons and Sri Lanka’s relations with the United States.

Ambassador Aryasinha says rejection of pro-LTTE candidates by European voters should encourage EU to re-calibrate its relationship with Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU Ravinatha Aryasinha has said the rejection by European voters of those who campaigned on a pro-LTTE platform at the recently concluded European Parliamentary elections, should encourage the EU to “re-calibrate its relationship with Sri Lanka” and “engage in a constructive manner in the post-LTTE context”.
