
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe was a distinguished speaker at the high-level forum titled “Women in Diplomacy” co-hosted by Thai Broadcasting Services (Thai PBS/Thai PBS World) and Stamford International University on 26 May 2025. The event, held at Thai PBS Headquarters in Bangkok, attracted approximately 100 participants, including students, educators, diplomats, and the public.
While delivering the opening remarks, the Advisor to Thai PBS World Thepchai Yong and Acting President of Stamford International University Apitep Saekow, highlighted the importance of gender inclusion and collaborative diplomacy.
In her keynote address, Ambassador Edirisinghe shared insights from her diplomatic career and emphasized the critical role women play in fostering peace, dialogue and cooperation in global affairs. She highlighted Sri Lanka’s longstanding commitment to gender equality, where women have held significant roles in polities, business, and diplomacy.
The panel of distinguished speakers included Ambassador of Peru to Thailand, Cecilia Galarreta Bazán, Ambassador of the Philippines to Thailand, Millicent Cruz-Paredes and, Deputy Director-General, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Kattariya Patumros.
The panelists shared insights on gender equality, cultural diplomacy, and the challenges and opportunities women face in international relations. Discussions focused on sustainable change, fostering cultural exchange, and empowering future generations of global leaders.
The event underscored a shared commitment to open dialogue and meaningful action toward gender equality and inclusive leadership. A central focus was the pivotal role women play in shaping societies, leading innovation, and contributing across sectors such as education, entrepreneurship, governance and media.
