Ambassador Shani Calyaneratne Karunaratne pays a courtesy call on HE Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Lebanon

Sri Lanka Ambassador to the Lebanese Republic Shani Calyaneratne Karunaratne paid a courtesy call on Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Lebanon Nabih Mostapha Berri at the official residence of the Speaker in Beirut on 01 October 2019.

The Ambassador received a guard of honour by the Guards of the Speaker at the official residence prior to the commencement of the meeting. Speaker Berri warmly welcomed the Ambassador, and spoke highly of Sri Lanka and commanded on the Sri Lankan migrant community in Lebanon and their economic impact to Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, the Speaker discussed the momentum of the political and economic climate of Sri Lanka aftermath of the April 21st Easter Sunday bombings, and mentioned that such actions are not the work of the responsible and genuine Islamic people. He further spoke on the migration patterns of the Lebanese people, the security condition of Lebanon and the impact of the Syrian migration on Lebanon.

The Speaker recalled the history and grandeur of Lebanon and offered a token of gift to the Ambassador, a coffee table book titled “History of the Lebanese Worldwide presence: The Phoenician Epoch”

Nabih Berri is the President of Parliamentary Councils since 1992 to date, and the Head of the Amal Movement in Lebanon.

The meeting at the Speaker’s residence was attended by the Senior Advisor of the Speaker, Ali Hamdan, and Head of Chancery Chathuri Perera accompanied the Ambassador to the meeting.
