
During a ceremony held in Nay Pyi Taw, the administrative capital, the Government of Myanmar honored the countries, including Sri Lanka, which assisted in the aftermath of the Earthquake which struck the country a year ago.
The ceremony to mark the first Anniversary of the Earthquake of 7.7 magnitude, was held on the 28 March 2026, at Myanmar International Convention Center in Nay Pyi Taw.
On behalf of the emergency rescue, relief and medical teams sent and relief and monetary donations made, commemorative medals were presented to the Ambassadors of the relevant countries including China, Russia, India, Nepal, Brazil, UAE, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh, and International and other local organizations.
The earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28 March 2025 affected 10 regions and states, resulting in 3,818 deaths, 5,104 injuries, and impacting 424,063 people, while temporarily displacing 279,111 individuals.
The Medical Heavy Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Team of Sri Lanka, which consisted of the members of Tri Forces, arrived in Myanmar, on 05 April 2025, and attended the urgent humanitarian medical requirements of the affected people, during the month of April 2025. (ENDS)
