
Celebrating 78th National Independence Day, the Embassy together with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), convened an Investor Forum attracting Chinese investment into the Colombo Port City on 6 February 2026.
The investor forum held at the Embassy was attended by Assistant Managing Director of Colombo Port City, Bai Xiaping, together with Deputy Secretary-General, Global Alliance for Trade in Services (GATIS), LIANG Jingyuan, Secretary-General, CCPIT Commercial Sub-Council, YAO Xin, Director of Investment and Exhibition Department, Beijing International Trade in Services Affairs Center, YANG Jing and representatives from over 30 leading Beijing-based companies.
Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe recalled the strong and longstanding Sri Lanka–China relations, underscoring recent high-level exchanges that have further strengthened bilateral cooperation between the two friendly nations. Strategically located adjacent to the Colombo Port, Ambassador went on to state that Colombo Port City is a beacon of opportunity offering world-class modern services in Sri Lanka transforming the country’s economic landscape.
The Ambassador briefed on the comprehensive economic and institutional reforms aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability, enhancing fiscal discipline, and improving investor confidence.
Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe invited all gathered to explore the opportunities to invest with confidence in Colombo Port City, and to join in building a community with a shared future for humanity in Colombo Port City, special Economic Zone where “Vision meets Opportunity”.
Detailed presentations on investment opportunities and the regulatory framework of the Colombo Port City were delivered by Minister (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Nalika Kodikara and Hu Jingdu of Colombo Port City.
The event also featured a mesmerizing cultural performance by Channa–Upuli Dance troupe, showcasing traditional Sri Lankan dance, which added a special impetus to Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage.
The guests were served the world-renowned Ceylon Tea from 7 Agro Climatic Regions and also able to favour Sri Lanka Cuisine creating a truly Sri Lankan ambiance.
