High Commission of Sri Lanka in Nairobi ceremonially commences Work for the Year 2026

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Nairobi, Kenya, ceremonially commenced work for the year 2026 on Friday, 2 January 2026, in accordance with Government directives on the resumption of duties of public institutions for the New Year.

The proceedings began with the hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the observance of a two-minute silence in remembrance of the members of the Tri-Forces and others who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland.

Officers and staff of the Mission thereafter took the Oath of the Public Service, reaffirming their commitment to unity, accountability, and resilience in the face of challenges, guided by the national vision of “a thriving country and a beautiful life,” while performing their assigned duties with efficiency and dedication.

Addressing the staff, Acting High Commissioner, Ruvini De Silva underscored the importance of an integrated, citizen-centred, and results-oriented public service. She highlighted the significance of motivation, teamwork, and professionalism at the beginning of 2026, particularly as Sri Lanka continues its recovery and rebuilding efforts following Cyclone Ditwah.

The ceremony concluded with a traditional New Year breakfast, marking the commencement of official duties for the year.
