Sri Lankan High Commission Celebrates Christmas

A simple yet elegant Christmas celebration organized by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan was held on 22 December 2025 at its premises in Islamabad.

Rev. Fr. Augustine of St. Fatima Church, Islamabad, together with Reverend Fathers from Sacred Heart Church, Rawalpindi, graced the occasion by invoking blessings and offering special prayers for the victims of Cyclone Ditwah.

High Commissioner Rear Admiral Fred Senevirathne (Rtd.) highlighted the significance of Christmas and emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence despite differences. He noted that Christmas is a time for reflection on peace, goodwill, and the shared values that unite people across cultures and nations, reminding us that hope can emerge even in challenging times. He further underscored that Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, symbolizing the sanctity of life. Born into a world marked by greed, hatred, vengeance, and hypocrisy, Jesus Christ grew to challenge these negativities, teaching humanity to love one another and spreading the message of peace.

The event was attended by members of different faith communities from Pakistan, along with home-based and local staff of the High Commission and their families.

Santa Claus distributed gifts to children, and the celebration featured the singing of Christmas carols by choirs from St. Fatima Church, as well as performances by staff members and their children. The event concluded with a Christmas cake-cutting ceremony, followed by refreshments and dinner.
