Sri Lanka and Jordan Discuss Strengthening ICT Cooperation

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan held a meeting with the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (int@j) at its headquarters in Al Rabia to discuss the renewal and reactivation of the cooperation agreement between Sri Lanka and Jordan in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration and exploring new avenues for partnership and innovation within the ICT sector.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, highlighted the key drivers behind the growth of Sri Lanka’s ICT exports, the current landscape of the country’s IT industry, and emerging opportunities for cooperation. She also commended Jordan’s achievements in advancing its ICT sector, noting that Jordan’s strategic location and dynamic technology ecosystem make it an ideal partner for Sri Lanka in promoting innovation and digital collaboration.

The newly appointed Chairman of int@j, Fadi Qutaishat, praised the technical expertise and professionalism of Sri Lankan IT professionals, particularly their strong English proficiency and adaptability. He observed that Sri Lanka offers a promising environment for mutually beneficial ICT partnerships and shared his positive experience of collaborating with a Sri Lankan telecommunications company in the past.

The int@j representatives also noted that Jordan will host the 25th Universal and MENA ICT Forum at the Dead Sea in 2026, which could serve as an excellent platform to further strengthen Jordan–Sri Lanka ICT cooperation and promote joint initiatives.

The Jordanian side undertook to propose possible date options for an online meeting with SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies) to review and finalize the terms of the renewed cooperation agreement. They also suggested facilitating mutual visits by business delegations from both countries to explore practical opportunities for collaboration.

Both sides acknowledged the vital roles played by int@j and SLASSCOM in fostering business linkages and knowledge exchange. The two sides further discussed the possibility of establishing a joint council or focus group to coordinate future ICT initiatives and cooperation frameworks.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening collaboration in the ICT sector through regular dialogue, exchange of expertise, and reciprocal visits.
