The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta organized a ‘Sri Lankan Traditional Dance Show & Workshop’ at the Embassy premises on 1 November 2025.
A ten-member team from the Sanka & Samudhi Performing Arts Foundation of Sri Lanka presented a series of traditional Sri Lankan dances, showcasing the distinct styles of Kandyan, Low Country, and Sabaragamuwa.
The event, attended by around 100 young Indonesian cultural enthusiasts, also featured a dance workshop conducted by Director of the Sanka & Samudhi Performance Arts Foundation, Priyadesh Gamage, where participants had the opportunity to learn and experience Sri Lankan dance steps with great enthusiasm.
During the event, the Embassy premises were transformed into a mini exhibition highlighting Sri Lanka’s culture, history, and arts.
In her welcome remarks, Chargé d’Affaires (a.i.) Nilanthi K. Pelawaththage invited the audience to visit Sri Lanka by taking advantage of the free tourist visa scheme for Indonesian nationals and the SriLankan Airlines daily direct flights, which take only 4.5 hours to reach Colombo.
SriLankan Airlines’ country office in Jakarta operated a promotional booth at the venue, while the official marketer of Dilmah Tea in Indonesia, PT David Roy Indonesia, offered complimentary cups of authentic Ceylon tea to guests.
The event was supported by Good News from Indonesia, a popular online media platform, as the media supporter.
As the event concluded, guests were treated to Sri Lankan traditional sweets and authentic Sri Lankan cuisine.
This cultural initiative aimed at promoting Sri Lankan heritage and traditions is expected to further strengthen people-to-people ties and encourage more Indonesian visitors to Sri Lanka.
