The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels celebrated its annual Deepawali festival - the festival of light celebrated by Hindu devotees - at the Sri Lanka Residence in Brussels with the participation of the multi-faith Sri Lankan community in Belgium and Luxembourg on 26 October 2025.
While wishing a happy and prosperous Deepawali festival for all the Hindu devotees in Sri Lanka and overseas, Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg and the EU, Chandana Weerasena, stated that the reflections of Deepawali; the victory of goodness over evil, could be applied for the betterment of the societies we live in and overcome challenges we confront. Ambassador Weerasena also conveyed the Deepawali message of the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Rev. Swami Chandramow Leeswaraiyar Gowrisankar made the Hindu religious observances and blessed the participants, as well as Sri Lanka and its people. The event included Bharatanatyam dance performances by the students of “Nadanta Bharatanatyam School” in Belgium choreographed by Roopa Ramkumar and Bharathanatyam artist Umadevi Periyaiah and Parmjit Singh Anu from the Sri Lankan community. The performers were presented with tokens of appreciation by the Ambassador.
The event followed a Sri Lankan dinner hosted by the Embassy.
