The city of Ploiești recently hosted the Asian Cultural Festival, drawing Ambassadors and delegates from across Asia. Organized in partnership with the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event forms part of the Asia Group of Ambassadors’ mission to extend cultural diplomacy and economic engagement beyond Bucharest.
Held in a spacious indoor venue with a vibrant atmosphere, the festival featured national booths from each participating Asian country, showcasing traditional crafts, textiles, artworks, and national delicacies. Among the highlights was Sri Lanka’s booth, which drew significant interest with its display of premium Ceylon Tea, Ceylon Cinnamon, Coffee, Spices, and traditional sweets such as Thalaguli, ginger biscuits, and other sweet-based snacks— all proving immensely popular among visitors.
The festival was attended by key local figures—the Mayor of Ploiești, the Governor of Prahova County, the President of the County Council—alongside business leaders, Chamber members, and residents, all underlining the value of regional cultural and commercial exchange.
The highlight of the day was a networking luncheon hosted by the Prahova Chamber, where each Ambassador delivered a concise presentation on their country’s economic ties to Romania, with a focus on opportunities within Prahova County. In response, President of the Prahova Chamber, Aurelian Gogulescu emphasized the county’s commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and encouraging investment with all participating Asian nations.
The luncheon created fruitful dialogue among diplomats, local officials, and business stakeholders—covering topics such as expanding trade, identifying new market opportunities, and promoting investment in key sectors across the region.
Importantly, Sri Lanka currently ranks 67th out of 96 countries in terms of foreign investment in Prahova County, with 2 registered companies. Nationwide, there are 134 Sri Lankan-registered companies in Romania, representing a total invested capital of USD 7.61 million.
This festival marked a dynamic fusion of cultural celebration and economic outreach. It reinforces regional cooperation and the shared commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy and business collaboration between Romania and Asia.
