High Commissioner-Designate of Sri Lanka to Pakistan Rear Admiral Fred Seneviratne (Rtd.) assumes duties

 

The newly appointed High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Rear Admiral Fred Seneviratne (Rtd.) VSV, USP, psc, MSc (DS), who arrived in Islamabad on 25 June 2025, officially assumed duties at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Islamabad on Thursday, 26 June 2025.

High Commissioner– designate was received and welcomed by the staff of the High Commission.  In his address to the staff, High Commissioner-designate Fred Seneviratne outlined the Government’s vision for strengthening the Mission’s activities, reflecting the aspirations of the people of Sri Lanka and the mandate entrusted to the Government. He also highlighted that both Pakistan and Sri Lanka are strategic partners in South Asia and the relationship established between two brotherly countries are based on mutual trust.

His assumption of duties was marked by the lighting of the oil lamp, religious rituals and addressing the staff followed by refreshments.

Following the assumption of duties, High Commissioner-designate Fred Seneviratne paid a visit to International Buddhist Centre in Diplomatic Enclave where he offered flowers.

Prior to the appointment as High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Fred Seneviratne served as an Advisor to the Commander of the Navy on Monitoring and Supervising all Naval Land Operations and Marine Operations, Formulate/Plans & Strategies to Achieve Optimum Results from Naval Land Deployments and Marine Deployments with other Armed Forces.

High Commissioner-designate Fred Seneviratne joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1986 and rose to the Rank of Rear Admiral on 09 March 2019 and served  up to 25 August 2020. He holds a Master of Defence Studies Degree from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
