Leveraging Recruitment Agencies to attract Sri Lankan skilled workers to Bahrain

 

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), Koshala Wickremasinghe, concluded an official visit to Bahrain on 15 May 2025 accompanied by a two-member delegation. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on labour migration and enhance the welfare and protection of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Bahrain.

During the visit, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain organized an interactive networking session with representatives of licensed recruitment agencies operating in Bahrain. The event was held at the Chancery premises on 15 May and served as a platform for constructive engagement between the visiting delegation and local recruitment stakeholders.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Shanika Dissanayake emphasized the importance of promoting the recruitment of skilled Sri Lankan workers, in line with Sri Lanka’s efforts to expand its skilled labour force abroad and improve employment standards.

The discussion focused on strengthening the recruitment process for both skilled and unskilled Sri Lankan workers, ensuring ethical recruitment practices, and enhancing the welfare and protection mechanisms for Sri Lankan migrant workers in Bahrain. Chairman Wickremasinghe highlighted the SLBFE’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of Sri Lankan workers overseas and expressed appreciation for the continued support and collaboration of Bahraini recruitment agencies. Furthermore, Second Secretary, Labour and Welfare section of the Embassy Swarna Rathnayaka, elaborated on the mechanisms adopted to assist the Sri Lankan workers in Bahrain.

Deputy General Manager (Business Promotion) of the SLBFE Samantha Hewa Walgamage, accompanied the Chairman, along with a member of the Board of Directors Hemantha Sapumohotti. They also contributed to the discussions.
