Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand with concurrent accreditation to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Wijayanthi Edorisinghe met with Minister of Home Affairs of Lao PDR, Vilayvong Bouddakham, in Vientiane. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring new avenues of collaboration between Sri Lanka and Lao PDR.
During the discussion, the Ambassador emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to enhancing diplomatic ties with Lao PDR, particularly in the areas of governance, administrative reforms, and capacity building. The Minister of Home Affairs of Lao PDR welcomed Sri Lanka’s engagement and expressed appreciation for the longstanding ties between the two countries, which are rooted in shared cultural and Buddhist heritage.
Both sides discussed potential cooperation in human resource development and public administration, including exchange programs for government officials and sharing best practices in administrative management. The Ambassador also conveyed Sri Lanka’s readiness to extend training opportunities and expertise in relevant fields through specialized institutions in Sri Lanka.
The discussions also focused on furthering regional and multilateral collaboration, with both parties recognizing the importance of working together within regional frameworks such as BIMSTEC and ASEAN-led initiatives to foster greater connectivity and mutual growth.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong and friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Lao PDR and underscored the commitment of both countries to expanding cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest.
