A cyclists team led by the UK’s Urology Foundation is due to commence its cycling tour “Dream Challenge: Cycle Sri Lanka” in Sri Lanka on 28 November 2024. The team comprises 16 cyclists from the UK urologists representing the UK Urology Foundation and other diverse professionals. The 10-day adventure from 28 November to 07 December 2024 starts from Negombo and will continue through Kitulgala, Kotagala, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Kandy, Peradeniya, Matale, Dambulla, Sigiriya, Trincomalee, finishing up in Negombo. The High Commission of Sri Lanka in London, in close coordination with the UK Urology Foundation will be facilitating the cycle tour.
High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom Rohitha Bogollagama and renowned retired prostate surgeon and the past President of the Royal Society of Medicine Professor Roger Kirby co-chaired a roundtable meeting with the team of the UK Urology Foundation on 11 November 2024 at the High Commission premises. In his remarks, High Commissioner Bogollagama expressed appreciation to the cycling team for selecting Sri Lanka for this adventure. Outlining Sri Lanka’s captivating tourist attractions, High Commissioner Bogollagama shared with the participants detailed information and travel tips on Sri Lankan cuisine, accommodation, road safety and traffic conditions, emergency handling, security arrangements, availability of high-quality health and hospital facilities, and possible side events. High Commissioner Bogollagama also mentioned that “you are going to stay in nice and beautiful hotels across the country and visit tourist locations including Kitulgala, where the famous bridge used as the setting for the movie “Bridge on the River Kwai” is located and the Kitulgala Rest House was used by the actors and the crew at that time.”
He further added, “As I have stated at the recently concluded World Travel Market- London, Sri Lanka has a great potential for marine tourism, as the country is rich with marine life that can be explored through diving and expeditions as well as shipwrecks from the time of World War II and such initiatives will help to attract more high-end tourists into Sri Lanka.
Professor Kirby, in his remarks, stated “I am so proud of the team travelling to Sri Lanka for this cycling tour. We intend to use this tour to promote adventure tourism and cycling tourism in Sri Lanka through our media contacts by circulating video clips and photos of the tour experience.”
