Representatives from the Recruiting Agents Association (RAA) discuss ways to increase  job opportunities for Sri Lankans

Representatives from the Recruiting Agents Association (RAA) in Jordan met Ambassador J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara at the Embassy on 14 March 2023 and discussed ways to promote employment opportunities for Sri Lankans.

The joint discussion focused on potential areas for collaboration between the two countries particularly in sharing notable policies, best practices, and mechanisms for the sustainable management of labor migration.

The representatives showed their interest and committment to expand job opportunities for Sri Lankans in the domestic sector where both countries may collaborate expecially in policy reforms on par with other labor sending countries. They had also expressed their willingness to visit Sri Lanka to further discuss on employment promotion and resolve the problems encountered by them.

In her remarks, Ambassador Wijegunasekara highlighted the significant position of Sri Lanka as a labor sending country and the valuable contribution of  migrant workers in the economic recovery and development of the country. The Ambassador expounded on the need of pursuing stronger policies and actions that also cover the protection and advancement of the welfare and rights of migrant workers. She also highlighted the government policies for the promotion of semi-skilled and skilled recruitment in foreign countries considering the high vulnerability of domestic workers.

The discussion was attended by Third Secretary (E&W) P.A. Rupasinghe and the staff of the Mission.
