Sri Lanka’s 75th Independence Day commemorated in Shanghai

Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Shanghai celebrated the 75th Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 04 February 2023 at the premises of the Consulate General under the patronage of Consul General of Sri Lanka to Shanghai Anura Fernando. The occasion was graced by Sri Lankans living in Shanghai and other Chinese well wishers.

The event commenced by playing the national anthems of both countries followed by religious observances conducted by Ven. Dhammadara Thero. The traditional oil lamp was lit by Consul General Anura Fernando and representatives of both Sri Lankan and Chinese communities. Thereafter independence day messages of  the President, Prime Minister and  Minister of Foreign Affairs were read by the Consul General and staff of the Consulate.

The Consul General in his speech emphasized the need of the Sri Lankan community based overseas to join hands together to build Mother Sri Lanka in line with the path initiated by  President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

The event was concluded by serving traditional milk rice and varieties of Sri Lankan sweetmeats to the guests.
