Embassy in Washington DC commences work in the new year with a firm resolve

New Year 2020

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington DC marked the ceremonial commencement of work in the new year 2020 with a special programme conducted at the chancery building on 02 January 2020.

The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag of Sri Lanka by Ambassador Rodney Perera in the presence of staff which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Thereafter a two minutes’ silence was observed in remembrance of national heroes and others who have sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland. Affirming their commitment as public servants, the Oath of Public Servants was read out by all staff in Sinhala and Tamil languages.

In his brief remarks, Ambassador Rodney Perera greeted all staff and extended his warm wishes for the new year. Echoing the sentiments expressed President and Prime Minister on the dawn of new year 2020, Ambassador Perera reiterated the emphasis placed on the necessity of working diligently to accomplish the Government’s vision to make the year 2020 the “Year of Prosperity” and ensure prompt, honest and unwavering contribution by all staff towards making the aspirations of the present and future generations a reality.

He requested all staff for their continued support and redouble their efforts to serve the motherland with dedication, steadfastness and unwavering commitment.

The programme concluded with staff partaking in traditional milk rice and Sri Lankan sweetmeats.
