High Commissioner-designate of Sri Lanka to Pakistan Noordeen Mohamed Shaheid assumes duties

The newly appointed High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the  Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Noordeen Mohamed Shaheid, Attorney at Law assumed duties on 22 October 2018 at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad.

At a simple ceremony following the assumption of duties, High Commissioner-designate Mohamed Shaheid said that though the formal Diplomatic relations  between Pakistan and Sri Lanka started in 1948, the genesis of the relations dates back to the Gandhara era. He further stated that both Pakistan and Sri Lanka are strategic partners in South Asia and that the relationship between the two brotherly countries is based on mutual trust, confidence and cordiality.  He was very optimistic that the cooperation between the two countries would be extended to all possible areas during his tenure and committed to extend his fullest support to strengthen the existing relationship and build stronger people to people contacts. The High Commissioner-designate also recalled  with gratitude the support and assistance provided by the Government of Pakistan to Sri Lanka in the hour of need.

High Commissioner-designate Mohamed Shaheid had held several high level positions in the State Sector previously. He had served as the Chairman of the National Institute of Co-operative Development, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency, Director of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Advisor to the Ministry of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services, Chairman of the Intellectual Property Advisory Commission, and Chairman and Director General of the National Enterprise Development Authority. Immediately prior to taking up the diplomatic assignment in Pakistan he served as the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Council.
