Ambassador Thassim holds discussions with the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia Azmi Thassim met with Secretary- General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, on 08 October 2018 at the GCC Headquarters in Riyadh.

At a warm and cordial meeting, two sides discussed mutually important topics ranging from manpower, energy, trade, tourism and investment between the member countries of the GCC and Sri Lanka.  The Secretary-General expressed his satisfaction on Sri Lanka’s bilateral engagement with the member countries of the GCC and underlined that further strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and the GCC member countries is much important at this juncture. The discussions were also focused on how Sri Lanka could benefit from technical cooperation programs of GCC subsidiary organizations such as the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO).

Ambassador Thassim encouraged the GCC Secretariat to further engage in multilateral initiatives currently spearheaded by Sri Lanka, which are also important to the GCC member countries.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka invited the GCC Secretary-General to visit Sri Lanka at a mutually convenient time to further strengthen the cooperation. The Secretary-General accepted the invitation.

Member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), namely: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar collectively host the largest Sri Lankan expatriate community in the world.
