The Sri Lanka Embassy, Moscow with the aim of promoting business opportunities in the island, especially promoting Sri Lanka as the best value tourist destination, organized participation of a 75 member delegation from the CIS countries in ‘CHOGM – 2013 Tourism Forum’ and ‘Reflection of Sri Lanka’ Exposition on Trade, Tourism Investment. The delegation arrived in Sri Lanka on 13 November 2013 and is also scheduled to undertake a familiarization tour around the country for ten days after attending “CHOGM – 2013 Tourism Forum” and “Reflection of Sri Lanka” exhibition.
This delegation includes high ranking government officials directly involved in the tourism industry of the Russian Federation, Republic of Belarus, and Ukraine in addition to travel and tour operators. Director of the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of Belarus, senior representatives of the City Administrations of Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, and Donetsk in Ukraine and senior representative of the Federal Tourism Agency of the Russian Federation are among the high ranking officials. Moreover, media personnel representing a number of radio and television companies of all three countries are part of the delegation.
During the recent Mega Tourism Promotion Campaigns conducted in CIS countries, the events ‘CHOGM – 2013 Tourism Forum’ and ‘Reflection of Sri Lanka’ were promoted in order to attract as many as potential investors and top level administrators. All potential applicants were subjected to a very tedious selection procedure, conducted personally by H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Republic of Belarus, and Ukraine, who always takes leadership from front to uplift the tourism industry of Sri Lanka.
‘Reflection of Sri Lanka’ – Exposition on Trade, Tourism Investment which showcased trade, tourism and investment potential of Sri Lanka was the first official engagement of the delegation on 13 November 2013. The main collaborator of this event is the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
