The National Discovery Museum Institute (NDMI) in Thailand together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Royal Thai Embassy in Sri Lanka, Maha Chulalongkornraja Vidyalaya University, the National Office of Buddhism and the Sri Lanka Embassy in Bangkok has organized an exclusive exhibition aimed to celebrate the 260 th anniversary of the establishment of Siam Nikaya in Sri Lanka in 1753 as well as to recall the historical relationship between Thailand and Sri Lanka.
The exhibition “ origin of Siam-Lankavansa ” has been organized depicting the visit of Upali Maha Thero and his retinue to establish the higher ordination ( Upasampada ) at a time when the monastic order in Sri Lanka was defunct. The organizers have highlighted the cultural and religious linkage between the two countries attracting the visitors’ interest using the modern technology. This exhibition has also provided an excellent opportunity for the public to educate themselves concerning the historical relationship in Buddhism and cultures between Thailand and Sri Lanka. The electronic and mass media in Thailand have given ample publicity highlighting the close and cordial cooperation between the two countries.
The exhibition was declared open by Mr. Santi Promphat, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office. The other distinguished guests were Mr. Nopparat Benjawatananun, Director General of National Office of Buddhism, Former Thai Ambassadors to Sri Lanka H.E. Mr. Poldej Worachat and H.E. Mr. Thakur Phanit, Prof. J.B. Dissanayaka, former Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Sharuka Wickrama-Adittiya, Manager / Thailand and Mekong Region, Sri Lankan Airlines and Mr. Rames Promyen, Director of the National Discovery Museum Institute attended.
The exhibition is open for public from Tuesday 29 th Oct. 2013 till Sunday 8 th Dec. 2013 at the Siam Museum, 4 Sanam Chai Road, Phra Nakhon in Bangkok, Thailand. (Website : www.museumsiam.com)
