Ambassador Jayatilleka visits Argentan, Normandie to review Quasimodo Fair preparations

Preparations are being finalized for the holding of the Quasimodo Fair in Argentan, Normandie in April this year at which Sri Lanka is to be featured as the Guest-of-Honour.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to France, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madam Sanja Jayatilleka undertook a visit to Argentan to review the progress made and meet with the organizers and media in the region.

On this occasion, Ambassador Jayatilleka exchanged views with Senator Nathalie Meriem Goulet, Member of the Foreign and the Armed Forces Committee, Vice Chairman of the Group of France – Gulf Countries and Member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. He also met with the Mayor of Argentan, Mr. Pavis, the President of the Regional Council, Mr. Beauvais, President of the County Council, Mr. Lambert and County Councillors, Messrs Carpentier and Jaglin.

Addressing the media, Ambassador Jayatilleka noted the conducive, investor- friendly environment that prevailed in Sri Lanka with the conclusion of the war. He stated that it was the Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister who had pointed out that Sri Lanka was the second fastest growing economy in Asia after China and as such he called on French investors to take advantage of the situation and explore the possibility of embarking on projects in the country.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador pointed out that the Quasimodo Fair would be yet another opportunity to showcase Sri Lanka in a region of France. During his discussions with Mr. Jean-Pierre Aury, President of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Jean-Josephe Geffrault, Secretary and Mr. Alain Derobichon, Treasurer of the Organizing Committee, Ambassador Jayatilleka thanked them for the selecting Sri Lanka to be featured at the fair that has been in existence for more than 90 years although it dates back to ancient times. Mr. and Mrs. Pierre Silliere who have been instrumental in coordinating the overall project were also present.

This annual consumer fair, which is held over a four days period draws several thousands and will showcase Sri Lankan products, culture and cuisine among other areas.

In the past, countries such as Hungary, Germany and Morocco have been featured at this annual event.
