The Missing Persons Commission has begun obtaining advice from the foreign experts appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa after the mandate of the Commission had been expanded, a Commission Spokesman said.

Commission Spokesman H.W. Gunadasa said that an investigations unit has also been appointed to investigate some of the complaints made by those giving evidence before the Commission. Gunadasa said that of the complaints and submissions made to the Commission during the sittings held so far, there are some which needed to be investigated deeply.

As a result, Gunadasa said that an investigations unit headed by a retired Judge had been established to investigate those complaints.

He said that the Mission Persons Commission obtains advice, when required, from the foreign experts, on legal issues.

The Mission Persons Commission will hold its next sitting in Mullaitivu early next month. The President had this year expanded the mandate of the Presidential Commission on mission persons and appointed international experts to advice the commission. (Colombo Gazette)
