The Stamford International University, Phetchaburi Campus, hosted a distinguished forum to mark International Women’s Day 2026, bringing together leading women diplomats, academics, and over 200 participants for an engaging exchange on the evolving role of women in global leadership and diplomacy.
The event was officially inaugurated by Governor of Phetchaburi Province, Pol. Lt. Phopchanok Chalanukhro, while Acting President of Stamford International University, Dr. Apitep Saekow, delivered the welcome remarks, setting the tone for a dynamic and thought-provoking programme attended by Ambassadors, university representatives, students, and local stakeholders from Hua Hin and Phetchaburi.
A highlight of the forum was the international panel discussion on the theme “Women in Diplomacy and Global Leadership in a Changing World,” featuring four distinguished Ambassadors, including Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, alongside the Ambassadors of Guatemala, Romania, and Hungary.
In her remarks, the Ambassador underscored that diplomacy is fundamentally rooted in dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding among nations. She emphasized that integrity, professionalism, respect for diversity, and empathy are essential leadership qualities in navigating today’s complex global landscape. Reflecting on her experience, she noted the importance of bridging local realities with global priorities, ensuring that international policies remain responsive to the needs of communities.
Addressing the role of women in diplomacy, the Ambassador highlighted the significant progress made in recent years, with more women assuming leadership roles and contributing meaningfully to international decision-making. She stressed that women’s leadership brings valuable perspectives that strengthen inclusive and balanced diplomatic engagement, while also inspiring future generations to pursue careers in public service.
The discussion further explored how women leaders can empower young women and entrepreneurs by serving as role models, fostering mentorship, and creating opportunities for skills development and global exposure. Ambassador noted that diplomatic missions play a key role in connecting students and entrepreneurs with international networks, platforms, and partnerships, enabling them to expand their ideas onto the global stage. The programme concluded with a visit to Mrigadayavan Palace, offering participants an opportunity to experience Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.
