The Government of Sri Lanka has appointed Mr. Vidarshana Munasinghe as the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Zurich, Switzerland.
Ambassador Sarrath Kongahage in Germany, concurrently accredited to the Swiss Confederation, presented the Letter of Commission to Mr. Vidarshana Munasinghe at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Berlin on 27th March 2014.
After completion of his secondary education at Ananda College, Colombo, Mr. Munasinghe furthered his studies at Polytechnic College, Colombo, and the Der Schweizer Hotelier-Verein in Bern, Switzerland. He is the founder of Munasinghe Tours and Trade GmbH in Switzerland. During 1994-99, by establishing a CD manufacturing plant in Cham, Switzerland, he produced and marketed the first Sinhala music CD to the Global Market. His company has been engaged in the business of importing Sri Lankan newspapers and food items to Switzerland and operating MCS CARGO since 1989. Freight forwarding to Asian countries is among the other business initiatives of Mr. Munasinghe to enhance people to people contacts between Sri Lanka and Switzerland. He has also played a pioneering role in promoting Sri Lanka's interests in socio-cultural fields by forming the first Sri Lankan cricket club and the Committee for United Sri Lanka in Zurich in 1985.
The jurisdiction of the Honorary Consulate in Zurich is limited to the Canton of Zurich. While rendering consular assistance to around 15,000 expatriate Sri Lankans in Zurich, Switzerland, the re-opening of the Honorary Consulate would augment and consolidate Sri Lanka's existing bilateral friendly relations in the fields of Trade, Economic, Socio-Cultural, Science and Technology, Tourism etc.
The Honorary Consulate in Zurich would be inaugurated on 15th April 2014, at the following address:
