The Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka for Southern India in Chennai celebrated the Day of Vesak at its Chancery premises with the participation of devotees from Sri Lanka and India.
The Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka V.Krishnamoorthy warmly welcomed the gathering. In his speech, the Deputy High Commissioner recalled that it is the 2562ndVesak Day celebrations and stated that on this important day Buddhists all over the world commemorate the birth, enlightenment and the Maha Parinirvana of Gautama Buddha.
As part of celebrations, the Mission organised a morning almsgiving or“heel danaya” for monks of the Mahabodhi Society in Chennai, followed by an evening programme that featured Vesak Lanterns, a Bodhi Pooja, Vesak devotional songs and a Dansala for the participants.
A Vesak Pandol depicting ‘Sath Sathiya’ added more colour to the celebrations.
