The Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai celebrated Vesak Day at its Chancery premises along with the devotees from Sri Lanka and India.
In the welcome speech, Deputy High Commissioner Mr. V. Krishnamoorthy recalled that it is the 2561st Vesak Day Celebration. Further, he highlighted that this Vesak Day is more important to Sri Lanka celebrating the 14th UN International Vesak Day to which Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will ceremonially inaugurate the conference in Colombo, while President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe will grace the occasion.
In line with celebrating the historical event this year, Vesak program initiated at the Chancery by providing “Dawal Dhanaya” for monks of the Mahabodhi Society in Chennai. The evening program included Bodhi Pooja, Vesak Bethi Gee and Dansela for the participants. This year Vesak Celebration function was more illuminated with the construction of first ever Vesak Pandal at the Mission premises which depicts “Sath Sathiya”, the seven weeks the Lord Buddha spent in the vicinity of the Bodhi Tree after attaining Enlightenment.
