The newly opened Sri Lanka Embassy in Bahrain conducted its first Vesak Programme from 15-19 May 2014 with the involvement of the expatriate Sri Lankan community as well as Sri Lankans working in three garment factories in Bahrain.
The main Vesak Programme was held at the Embassy premises on Saturday the 17th of May with the participation of Ven. Talalle Chandakitthi Thero of the Narada Buddhist Dharmayatanaya, Colombo 7. The programme, which started in the evening and continued till midnight, included Buddha Pooja, Dhamma Sermon, Chanting of Dhammachakka Suthra, recital of Bhakthi Gee by the community groups, staging of Mahasara Jathaka Drama and “Dansela”.
The Embassy premises was decorated with Buddhist flags, illuminations and several colorful vesak lanterns. There were over 500 participants and the event was supported by Buddhists as well as non-Buddhist Sri Lankans. The Embassy also arranged Dhamma Sermons in three garment factories i.e. Ambattur, Nobel and MRS Fashion, where over 2,000 Sri Lankan female garment workers are employed.
