The Consulate General of Sri Lanka commemorated Vesak Festival in Sri Buddha Year 2567 (2023) collaborating with Los Angels Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara (Crenshaw Temple) on 6 & 7 May 2023 In Los Angeles, California.
On 6 May, the temple was illuminated with Vesak lanterns and decorated with Buddhist flags, colourful fresh flowers, etc. The Consulate General played a main role in providing Vesak lanterns to be displayed at the temple premises.
There was also a special program of “Sunday School Students” by the Sangha and Dayaka Sabha of the Temple on May 6th evening. The Program consisted with the Oratory & Pali Chanting Contests, Speech Contests, Buddha Pooja, Dansala, Bhakthi Geetha – Devotional Songs, etc. The Consul General distributed the prizes for the winners of these contests. Nearly 300 devotees comprising of foreigners and Sri Lankan community members participated at the above event.
The following day of Vesak Poya, the Consulate General arranged a dhamma sermon at the Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara by Venerable Urumuththe Revatha Thero of Texas Meththa Viharaya. The staff of the Consulate General and their family members observed “Sil” and participated at the above program. During the Sil Program, the Consulate General arranged a “Gilanpasa Dansela” to sil observers and devotees at the temple.
A special donation collected from the Consulate General Staff and handed over to Ven. Pannaratana Thero of Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Temple who is presently constructing a Buddhist Vihara in Weeraketiya, Sri Lanka.
Further, the Consul General participated the Vesak Celebration Programs - 2023 (Spiritual & Cultural Program) at the Mindfulness Meditation Center/ Los Angeles Buddhist Vihara, Covina and Sambuddhaloka Buddhist Vihara (Riverside) held on 6, 20 & 21 May 2023.
