The Embassy premises was colorfully decorated for the celebrations with a giant pandol, cluster of 40 Vesak lanterns, 7 lotus flowers with a cutout of Prince Siddhartha, a Casket of Relics etc. which reminisced the atmosphere of a truly Sri Lankan setting that blended perfectly with a festive mood, lights and sounds infused for the occasion? The staff of the Embassy together with their families took the initiative in organizing the event which was the first of its kind to be celebrated in Havana. The festivities began on the 24th evening following the observance of a Buddhist programme and offer of prayers. A large gathering of invitees including members of the Diplomatic Corps representing all religious denominations, Cuban officials, Sri Lankan students and the public were among those participated in the 3-day long celebrations. Those present at the celebrations had lot of praise for the Embassy staff for showcasing a rare display of lanterns and illuminations which no doubt would linger in their memories for many more years to come. The invited guests were served with Sri Lanka sweetmeats and light refreshments on all days.
