Travel Award of Condé Nast Traveller

At the 6th annual Readers’ Travel Award of Condé Nast Traveller, the magazine which sets the industry benchmark in the hospitality and travel industry initiated in 1989 in the United States of America, Sri Lanka received the Runner up award in the category - “Favourite Emerging Destination”.

At the glittering ceremony the High Commissioner, Mrs. Chitranganee Wagiswara received the award on behalf of Sri Lanka Tourism. The Chief Guest was the Secretary Ministry of Tourism, Government of India Shri Vinod Zutshi. Over 250 selected invitees which included diplomats, officials and leading cooperate members from the travel and tourism industry were present at the event.

While accepting the award, in her brief remarks she thanked the Condé Nast Traveller for the presentation of the award which was chosen through a readers voting process spanning over two months. She stated that the tourism industry in Sri Lanka is developing fast as a popular destination and spoke of the remarkable combination of attractions in Sri Lanka such as the landscape, cultural heritage, wildlife, shopping etc. While noting that the highest number of the tourists to Sri Lanka is from India, she encouraged those who have not been to Sri Lanka to visit the country.
