“The Monk and the Peasant: A Study of the Traditional Sinhalese Village”, a well-presented coffee table book co-authored by renowned Sri Lankan Professor J.B. Dissanayaka and an internationally recognized Sri Lankan photographer, Mr. Tilak Hettige was launched at the Residence of the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Philippines in Manila on 8th November 2016 where a copy of the book was ceremonially presented to Ambassador, Mrs. Aruni Ranaraja by Mr. Tilak Hettige.
Welcoming the gathering, Ambassador Ranaraja paid tribute to the authors and indicated that the collective efforts of Professor J.B. While appreciating the launch of “The Monk and the Peasant”, the Ambassador said that the book is “a journey of discovery of the rich cultural and social milieu in a simple narrative with captivating visuals”. The Ambassador also noted that it is an important documentation of the relationship between a Sinhalese village and a temple which reflects many traditions and relationships in Sri Lanka.
Mr.Hettige, who is an author of several other books, explained how the idea of the book was conceived during the launch of the book 'Saffron Robes' by Professor J.B. Dissanayake.
