The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C., commences work for 2024, under the patronage of Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe

Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe and the staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C. commenced the work year at the chancery premises on 01 January 2024, following the tradition of hoisting the national flag while reciting the national anthem.

A two-minutes of silence was observed to honour the national heroes and those who sacrificed their lives for the country. Subsequently, all staff recited the oath of the public officers. Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe addressed the staff, offering words of encouragement and outlining the objectives and guidelines that the Mission aims to achieve in the year 2024. He urged the Embassy staff to collaborate and strive for accomplishments beyond what was achieved in the preceding year, highlighting the importance of public servants carrying out their duties effectively for the benefit of all Sri Lankan diaspora, in line with government policies.

The Ambassador expressed his gratitude and wishes for the New Year, emphasizing the need for continued teamwork to foster a true Sri Lankan identity that embraces and celebrates the country's rich diversity. The programme concluded  with serving traditional Sri Lankan food.
