The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai organises a clay Ganesha making workshop

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai celebrated the upcoming festival of Ganesh Chaturthi by organising a workshop for making clay idols of the Hindu God Ganesha. The project was conducted in collaboration with the Museum Society of Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum (CSMVS Museum) and St. Xavier’s College with the aim of fostering cultural diplomacy and people-to-people contacts.

The event was held at the CSMVS Museum with 140 participants including 60 children from the local community, the staff of the Mission and members of the Sri Lankan community in Mumbai. The event also had 20 student volunteers from St. Xaviers College.

In addition, 36 Diplomats from the British Deputy High Commission, and Consulates of the USA, China, Australia, Japan, Germany, Finland, Israel, Mauritius and Belarus and their children participated in the event.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival commemorating the birth of the Hindu God, Ganesha. The festival is marked with the installation of Ganesha idols privately in homes and publicly in pandals.
