The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, as part of its policy to promote people-to-people diplomacy at the school level, hosted 108 primary school students from Shishuvan School at the Consulate General. They were accompanied by fourteen teachers and sixteen parents from the Parent-Teacher Association. The students attended the session in two batches, each consisting of 54 students, 8 parents, and 7 teachers.
Minister (Commercial) of the Consulate General Shirani Ariyarathne made an audio-visual presentation to the students about Sri Lanka, covering a broad range of topics including wildlife, food, festivals, population profile, and the cultural transformation of Sri Lanka from the Ramayana period to the present. This was followed by an interactive session during which all the students' queries were addressed by the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai Dr. Valsan Vethody. The students and teachers were very receptive, and a lot of enthusiasm was visible.
As a token of appreciation, each student received a hand-made Sri Lankan elephant keychain, tourism brochures, and maps. Additionally, the Consul General presented the Head of the Primary School with a Sri Lankan handicraft mask.
