On 13 April 2023, the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, Dr Valsan Vethody and Mission staff celebrated Sinhala and Tamil New Year at the DhammaGiri - Vipassana International Academy, Igatpuri.
Dhamma Giri, meaning ‘Hill of Dhamma’, is one of the world’s largest Buddhist meditation centres. It is also the main centre of the rapidly growing global Vipassana organizations. At a given time, the centre has a capacity of accommodating 400 individual meditation rooms with a separate stay facility for males and females. The centre also consists of a Vipassana Research Institute, a full-fledged library, a visitors hall, an art gallery on Buddha depicting his journey and key information about Buddhism.
The Consul General and staff were taken on a tour of the campus by Vani who looks after the General administration, Security and Public Relations of the Vipassana Centre, and also participated in a short Buddhist meditation session.
