The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan celebrates Christmas with the Sri Lankan community

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan celebrated Christmas with the Sri Lankan community. The Sri Lankan community within the Milan Municipality is over 34,000 and a special midnight mass was conducted in Sinhala for the Sri Lankan Catholics by the Sri Lankan Chaplains in Milan.

Every year, the Sri Lankan community in Milan gets together in a uniquely Sri Lankan way to celebrate Christmas. Christmas concerts are organised with nativity dramas and Christmas carols performed in Sinhala, English and Italian languages by Sri Lankan parishioners and churches, Sri Lankan international schools in Milan and other community associations, celebrating the joy of the season.

For the second consecutive year, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan served refreshments to Sri Lankan churchgoers attending the midnight mass which was held at Basilica di Santo Stefano Maggiore, located in the proximity to the landmark of the city “Duomo di Milano”, the Milan Cathedral.

Sri Lankan delicacies were served to more than a thousand of Sri Lankans who attended the mass. The goodwill gesture demonstrated by the Consulate General at the wintry dawn of Christmas 2024 was appreciatively welcomed and commended by community members.
