Thaipongal was celebrated by the Sri Lankan community in Milan, Italy at a ceremony organized by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan for the first time, on 19 January 2020, at the Consulate General premises.
A cross section of the Sri Lankan community, including Sri Lankan Tamil community residing in Milan were present at the colourful and spiritual event.
The celebration started with the outdoor milk boiling and pongal preparation event, symbolizing the aspect of Thanks Giving to the Sun God who makes the Universe prosper.
Pongal offered to Lord Ganesh depicts the strong bond between human beings and the nature.
At the reception, the refreshments served included an array of food, traditionally associated with Thaipongal.
The events of this nature intend to appreciate respective cultures of fellow Sri Lankans and demonstrate the continued unity among Sri Lankans.
